Public Participation: Survey & Community Planning Meetings

City of Marion Comprehensive Plan Survey 2009 - PDF (8½x14)
City of Marion Comprehensive Plan Survey 2009 - PDF (8½x11)

WHAT IS THE PLAN?
Comprehensive Plans are tools used in the State of Indiana as a way to identify goals for the City and to develop strategies to achieve those goals. Information from the public will help to identify issues and set goals in multiple areas of City life [Economic Development, Housing, Parks and Recreation, Land use and Zoning, City Image, etc].

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO PARTICIPATE?
The anonymous survey is a preliminary stage of the Plan update for the City of Marion. The results of this survey and future community meetings will help mold the Comprehensive Plan for the City until the year 2030. The Plan will be used by multiple City departments and organizations as a tool to guide growth and development. Now is the time to give your opinion and provide input as we set goals and visions for Marion’s future.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE SURVEY?
Property Owners, Residents, Students and Business Owners of all ages that live, work, shop, worship or visit Marion regularly are encouraged to participate. Everyone's opinion is important. Whether you've lived here all of your life or if you've lived in other cities, everyone has an opinion about Marion's current issues and future potential. Please answer the questions regarding the area of town in which you live and work so that we can begin to focus on issues specific to each area.

Please print and return the survey by Friday, March 6th, 2009 to: Aletha Dunston at the Advisory Plan Department in City Hall, 301 S. Branson Street, Marion, IN 46952. You may also return it to the Marion Public Library Front Desk, any City Department, your Neighborhood Association President, or the Marion Utilities Billing Office.

WHAT COMES NEXT?
Community meetings are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings in March and April 2009 [please check the City calendar for date and location changes] There will be one meeting held for each of the "sectors" labeled on the map. Information from this survey and the community meetings will be compiled and used to form goals for the City. The City Planning Department will then draft a Comprehensive Plan to submit to the Advisory Plan Commission and City Council for adoption. The plan will then go through regular updates and reviews based on a schedule identified in the plan.
